Eco-Tourism Escape
Walk with the forest guardians of Prey Lang — one of the last great lowland forests in Southeast Asia.
What to Expect
Prey Lang — 'our forest' in Khmer — stretches across four provinces and represents one of the last intact lowland evergreen forests in Southeast Asia. It is not a national park but a community-protected forest, guarded by the indigenous Prey Lang Community Network whose members have lived here for generations. Your guide for this experience is an active forest monitor — someone who patrols these trails to document illegal logging and protect the biodiversity that depends on the forest. Visiting directly supports their work.
Your Experience
Departure from town
Drive to the forest community village — about 1.5 hours from Kampong Thom town depending on season and road condition.
Community village welcome
Meet the village elder and your community monitor guide. Brief orientation on the forest, the community network, and what to expect on the trail.
Forest trail walk
Enter the forest on community patrol trails. Your guide identifies medicinal plants, points out wildlife signs, demonstrates resin tapping, and explains the forest's biodiversity.
Community lunch
Return to the village for lunch prepared by community members — forest vegetables, river fish, and rice.
Conservation talk & return
A frank conversation about deforestation pressures, the community's patrol work, and how tourism supports it. Then drive back to town.
