Sacred Mountain
809 steps to a reclining Buddha, ancient carvings, wild monkeys, and a panorama that stretches to the horizon.
What to Expect
Phnom Santuk is the most sacred mountain in Kampong Thom — a 206-metre limestone outcrop rising from the flat Cambodian plains, covered in shrines, carvings, and resident monks. The climb is 809 steps along a shaded stairway flanked by Buddha statues, stupas, and wild macaque monkeys that have lived here for centuries. At the summit: a 9-metre reclining Buddha, a working pagoda, ancient rock-carved Buddhas, and a view over the rice fields that stretches to the Tonle Sap.
